How to Start an Internet Business
Starting an Internet Business Is Probably the Greatest Business Idea If You Want to Sell
a Product or Service Right From Your Home, at Any Time of Day.
If you think it’s too late to start an internet business, you have to realize that (A) regular people are making money on the internet and (B) it’s only been the ‘internet as we know it’ for a little less than ten years.
That’s a short time.
What that means to you is now is the time. It’s still the beginning, even if you have the feeling that you have so much to learn and you’ll never figure it out.
The thing is that it’s just like any business, except that it’s one you can start in your home, part-time. You can keep your day job and spend your free time building a business. There were never opportunities like this before.
And this article will help you get started. I’m going to cover the three typical ways you can start your business on the ‘net. And show you which one may make the most sense for what you are trying to do.
Basically, here are the three ways you can make money when you start internet business:
1. Sell your own product or service.
2. Sell other people’s products through drop shippers
3. Sell other people’s products through affiliate programs
It’s a different world now. The internet is a big part of it and we’re only at the tip of the iceberg. You might feel like you’re so far behind and that it’s “too late.” But it’s not like a hot stock that’s bound to fizzle.
Sure, it’s going to have it’s growing pains. But if you think about it, the internet has only been what it is today for less than ten years. Did you even have e-mail ten years ago?
The internet is real. It’s a place of business. A place of fun. A place that puts the power of communication and commerce right at our fingertips.
It’s wild to think about what life was like before the internet.
But starting an internet business is no easier than starting a regular, offline business. It’s certainly a good way of life once you get going (and making money). But it takes work … just like any other business.
Guys like Corey Rudl of the Internet Marketing Center or Jim Edwards, who created the course 33 Days to Online Profits, make it look easy.
But these guys certainly work hard to make their money.
Just as hard as any other successful business owner has to. Although they were lucky (and smart) enough to be in on the ground floor of the internet. I was still working in the direct mail business when they were already becoming “internet pioneers.”
The internet can do for you what it’s done for a lot of people. It gives everyone and anyone with a connection to the internet (and determination) a decent chance to cash in.
You can be on equal footing with the big guys because it really doesn’t cost a lot to get started.
How do you find the right online opportunity?
Are these some of your questions:
- What should you sell?
- How do you get products to sell on your website?
- How do you learn how to start an internet business?
If you’re just starting out, you should be looking at low risk, low-cost startup – something you can start where the rewards are unlimited and you can make money equal to the amount of time and effort you are able to invest.
And once you build your website, you need to figure out how to get the products to sell on your site.
And the webs gives you a chance to find something you’re passionate about and create an income with it. The days of a business being either local or not are over. Local business people are selling products and services next door, and across the world.
Three Options for Making Money on the Internet
1. Create Your Own Product
Creating and selling your own products to sell has advantages and, like anything else, disadvantages.
One of the biggest advantages is that you can end up with higher profit margins from the sale because you eliminate any outside manufacturers and distributors. (It’s all in your hands and in your control … which is good.)
You become the manufacturer, the distributor, the sales and marketing department. But, as much as this can be an advantage it can be a disadvantage. Most likely you’re creating a product that nobody has heard of and the time you spend on production will take away from your marketing, the most important aspect of any business.
But keep in mind, the time you can invest into marketing your product depends on the type of item you are creating. You may be making gift baskets, which will be a constant assembly process allowing for little time aside from putting together the product.
On the other hand, creating your own informational products allows you to sell on your website using an automated sales system. Once the product or ebook is created, you can put your effort towards promoting and marketing the product.
There are plenty of people running successful websites, selling items they’ve created themselves and sold for big profits. But creating an internet business that sells is something you’ll want to learn if you want a successful, profitable business.
2. Use drop shippers to sell brand name products
Drop shipping is one of the best ways to create a site and sell a well-known, brand name product without having to keep inventory and without having to ever physically touch the product.
According to Chris Malta of the Drop Ship Source Directory:
“A Drop Shipper is a wholesale distributor that will ship one product at a time directly to your customer, once the order is placed through your website. You pass the information to your drop ship partner and they’ll send the product out for you, right from their warehouse.”
This is a great way to start a business without having to spend a lot of money up front. You pay the wholesale cost of one product at a time after your customer places the order. Your customer pays you whatever retail price you’ve set.
If you would like to get started with a low-cost internet business selling brand name products on your website, drop shipping is the answer. (Chris Malta’s Free Ebook goes into this in more detail.)
Even the big companies take advantage of drop shipping because they now realize that they can save on labor, time and product storage costs. The entire sales system becomes more efficient and profitable.
To find the wholesalers who will drop ship products at the wholesale price, you can either dig through the internet yourself or use a drop shipping wholesale directory with listings of the drop shippers.
But be aware … there are plenty of directories on the internet, some of which give you nothing but poor, outdated information.
I am a lifetime member and recommend using Chris Malta’s
Drop Ship Source Directory, which is probably the most popular and recognized resource for wholesale drop shippers.
3. Make Money without actually selling your own products!
By now, you have probably heard of affiliate programs, also known as associate or referral programs. No matter what you call them, they are partnerships between two websites – one who sells the products and the other who places links on their website to help sell those products for a commission.
The website selling the product pays a commission for sales generated through banners, text or product links placed on the affiliate’s website. This is a great way to make money on the internet without physically placing orders and keeping inventory.
It’s all 100% automated… but automated does not mean easy and it doesn’t mean that just throwing some links up on a site will bring you even a dime of income. You need to set up your site in a way that you bring value to your visitors.
Do your research and learn to understand that there are hundreds of thousands of affiliate websites out there. It will not make you rich right away (if at all) and only the best and most knowledgable really make good money.
The one product we will recommend to help you learn the whole internet business, soups to nuts, is Corey Rudl’s hand’s Insider Secrets Course for Building an Internet Business.
There is not a course like it on the internet and there may not be anyone else like Corey who has proven how to make millions working for yourself on the internet.
